Education, Energy and the Economy
Dear Neighbors,
The first session of the 28th Alaska Legislature is underway and I am excited to be your public servant and representative. I will continue to focus on education, energy and the economy as top priorities for the state.
As your servant, please do not hesitate to call or send me an email if I can ever assist you with any state or local issues. My staff and I stand ready to help you negotiate government bureaucracy and research solutions to a variety of issues.
Rep. Tuck signs the Oath of Office with Lt. Governor Mead Treadwell, joined by staff members Kaycie Thompson, George Ascott, and Mike Coumbe.
Alaska’s Fiscal Situtation
Our state fiscal situation appears to be undergoing a significant change from recent years. Despite previous projections of a general fund surplus in Fiscal Year 2013, new projections show a deficit of $410 million due to declining oil production and lower oil prices.
For the past eight years we typically had higher-than-projected oil prices that made up for lower-than-projected oil production. This allowed us to put billions of dollars into the state’s savings account to use in leaner years.
We need to further incentivize the exploration and production of new oil fields to put more oil into the pipeline while making sure that we Alaskans get a fair share of revenue from our publicly-owned resource.
Alaska’s current tax incentives for new oil exploration are among the best in the world by a large margin. Any changes to our tax structure must guarantee more activity in Alaska.

Rep. Tuck receives a visit in his Juneau office from Duane Moran (left) and constituent Greg Collen to discuss education issues.
I’m here for you, so please keep in touch on matters important to you and your family!
Warm regards,
