Alaska Says: No Frankenfish!

I am a proud supporter of our military men and women. I serve on is the Joint Armed Services committee where the Alaska Command gave the legislature an update. Following the meeting, I had the chance to meet General Katkus.

This Saturday is our first constituent meeting! Sen. Johnny Ellis and myself will be having a pizza party at the Mountain View Community Center (Mountain View Boys & Girls Club). We’ll be in the Teen Room starting at 4 p.m. If you have any questions, feel free to call my office at (907)465-3424. Check out the video we made!

Also on Saturday, the Anchorage Caucus will be holding a public meeting. Everyone is invited to come and express your concerns. We will be meeting at 9:30 AM in the Assembly Chambers at Loussac Library for a short meeting and then open the floor to public testimony.

HJR 5 passes the House with unanimous support!

We love our constituents! Last week, Clark Pelz of Airport Heights was in Juneau lobbying for the Alaska Botanical Garden.

This week was very exciting for me. I introduced House Joint Resolution 5 at the beginning of session to oppose the federal Food and Drug Administration’s approval of Genetically Modified Salmon in the United States. This action brings the 28th Alaska State Legislature one step closer to joining the Alaska Congressional Delegation and the governor in standing with Alaska’s fishermen against “Frankenfish.” The resolution now goes to the Senate.

First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year Awards

The First Lady is accepting nominations for the 2013 First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year Awards. The nomination deadline is March 1, 2013. The awards recognize volunteers who engage in unpaid charitable activities, demonstrate personal commitment to long-term volunteer services and make a significant impact for Alaskans. · Saturday, February 23 - Anchorage Caucus, 9:30 AM – 1 PM at the Assembly Chambers, Loussac Library. We will be taking public testimony and hearing from Anchorage Mayor Dan Sullivan, Special Assistant to the Centennial Commission Susan Duck, and Anchorage School Board President Jeannie Mackie.
