Juneau Energy Emergency Update Second Month’s Electricity Rates Will Be Lower Than Expected On May 27, AEL&P issued a press release announcing the estimated electricity rate of 18 cents per kilowatt hour for the electricity bills that will come out between June 16 and July 15. This includes an estimated cost of power adjustment (COPA) of 10 cents and the base summer rate of 8 cents per kilowatt hour. Originally, Juneau faced the possibility of rates close to 40 cents per kilowatt hour. The lower estimates are due to lower than estimated diesel use, mainly because repairs will be done sooner than expected. The AEL&P press release cautions that this could change if the cost or amount of diesel rises, or there are unexpected changes in the repair schedule. The rate will be finalized in a filing with the Regulatory Commission of Alaska in the second week of June. Click here to read the press release. Temporary Electric Bill Payment Help Program Expanded The temporary program to help pay electric bills operated by Catholic Community Services and United Way of Southeast Alaska through a grant from the City and Borough of Juneau has been expanded. The program will now cover families with incomes up to 300% of the Federal Poverty Income Guidelines. Households with lower incomes will receive more help. Income guidelines and amounts covered are listed in the table below.
