Juneau Energy Emergency Update
AEL&P to Go Before RCA to Address Retroactivity Issue

Many of us are biting our fingernails waiting for the first high AEL&P bills to arrive in our mailboxes. AEL&P had intended to send those bills out yesterday, but did not. They have decided to hold those bills in order to go before the Regulatory Commission of Alaska (RCA) to address an issue that has angered many Juneauites. That problem is the possibility of being charged 52.5 cents per hour for the first part of April – before the avalanches wiped out our Snettisham connection and forced us onto diesel generators and before everyone in town started conserving.

AEL&P is hoping to go before the RCA tomorrow with a proposal to eliminate those retroactive charges and hopes to get a quick turnaround on the RCA’s decision.
