DEMOCRATS MAKE TEMPORARY COMMITTEE MOVE
Mike Doogan to join House Judiciary Committee

JUNEAU – Today the House Committee on Committees met to seat Rep. Mike Doogan (D-Anchorage) on the House Judiciary Committee, temporarily filling the seat of Rep. Max Gruenberg (D-Anchorage).

Gruenberg continues to recover from a minor surgery, and has not been cleared for travel to Juneau. There are two Democrats on the seven-member team, and it is critical to have every seat filled as the Legislature’s pace picks up. Rep. Lindsey Holmes (D-Anchorage) is the other Democrat on the Judiciary Committee.

“I’m happy to keep Max’s seat warm until he’s ready to go,” Doogan said.

Gruenberg is recovering well, but had an infection following his surgery.

“The recovery has just taken a little longer than we anticipated,” Gruenberg said. “I’m feeling better though, and I’m really anxious to get to Juneau. I know Representative Doogan will do a great job. I really want to thank everybody for their concerns and calls, it has cheered me up.”

“The most important thing is for Max to get well,” said House Minority Leader Beth Kerttula (D-Juneau). “We miss him down here. At the same time, we’ve got to keep all the bases covered now that things are heating up.”

Gruenberg also sits on the House Ways and Means and House State Affairs Committees. Ways and means is not yet having regular meetings, and with Rep. Bob Lynn (R-Anchorage) also missing from State Affairs, that committee remains balanced.
