February 13th, 2012

Friends and Neighbors,

Please join Senator Joe Thomas, Representative Bob Miller and me for a constituent meeting. This is a great opportunity to hear about how the session is progressing, bills I am working on and to let me know what you want to see done.
Date: Sunday, February 19th, 2012
Time: 1pm to 3pm
Location: West Valley High School Library,
3800 Geist Road
Numerous oil consultants have been in Juneau telling us that the Governors oil tax giveaway is just that- a giveaway. Careful, calculated changes should be made in our tax regime, but Governor Parnell’s bill to roll back ACES is not the answer.
Rep. Guttenberg speaking on the House FloorThose of us who stood up and said slow down have been beaten over the head and told we are playing a risky game. Please come to the meeting on Sunday to talk to us about what is really happening.
For more information, please contact my office 907-456-8172.
Peace of Mind: Child Only Health Insurance
I have filed a bill, HB 326 “Child-Only Health Care Coverage”, that would require health insurance companies operating in Alaska to offer a child only policy for purchase. Right now, no company in Alaska offers this type of policy.
Families who do not have access to family plans, grandparents who are raising grandchildren and court appointed guardians cannot purchase an individual child plan.
This creates a very scary and unnecessary situation for families. My bill requires these plans to be offered once again for purchase in the state and sets up an enrollment period. I have worked with the Department of Insurance on trying to remedy this situation as quickly as possible. Changing statute seems to be our only option.
I will your need help getting this bill passed as soon as possible. Please contact my office to learn how you can show your support.

Thank you for reading and please feel free to call my office and share your ideas.
